Internet Friends

I've never blogged about this before but isn't the internet a really wonderful thing!! When I started this blog I did it as a way of keeping in touch with friends and family back home - never in a million years did I think that through it I would meet like minded people and actually forge friendships.

Friendship in the blog world is similar to that in the physical world - it has to be a two way process and over time liking someone's thoughts, comments, (writing) style etc blossoms into a friendship. I get withdrawal symptoms when I'm away from my computer for a few days as I want to know if, for example, Spiral Skies Jen got the job she was after, or how Lane is getting on trying to get her teenager to wear glasses and if Mel has managed to go another week without killing her evil MIL (Mother-in-law). I really value my friends - all of them - and appreciate all the help, support and laughs that we share. I know some people who think that it's terribly sad to actually admit that you have blog friends.....you know what......to them I say that I think it's terribly sad that they don't......cause they don't know what they are missing!!!

Anyway, what prompted this post of all things internet and friendy was that I actually met one of my blog friends yesterday in the flesh (JJ from Tea Stains doesn't really count since I knew her before we both started blogging - although I love catching up with her on her blog when I've not seen her for a few days!!). Mel from Thai Village Life and I have been reading and commenting on each others blogs for nearly a year now and yesterday she arrived in Bangkok to get herself organised for a job interview today. JJ and I met up with her and her hubby, J, for lunch and then us girls went shopping. Mel is just as lovely in 'real life' as she is on her blog and meeting up with her was like getting together with an old friend that I had not seen for a while. We had a great time and I really hope she get's the job (Her interview sounded like it went really well) cause you can never have too many friends that are happy to go shoe shopping with you!!!

I'm with you! I've only been doing this blog thing for a month (if that) but already I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone is up to, and I love the fact there is this alternate community that is real and vital. I feel like this year I have gone from being a quiet little person sitting alone in my room to being a part of a worldwide writing community. Gee - I should probably be blogging this, but, anyway, here, here! x

I'm actually still astounded by how fab Blogland and its inhabitants are...

It's so weird when we finally meet our blog pals in real life and they turn out to be just as we expected.

I'd really miss t'internet if it broke down...

I think that you are even more fabulous in the flesh then in your blog (if that is even possible ;-p)! I completely agree, it was like meeting up with an old friend (you are older then me hehe!) that I've known for years. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your generousity C and thankyou thankyou thankyou for everything (too long to list!). Hopefully can meet Chris very soon too! I think your lucky skirt is going to get me the job!

Sue - It's amazing isn't it!! Suddenly the world doesn't seem such a big place :-)

Spiral Skies - I would be lost (Isn't that sad!!) if the internet broke down.

Mum - Stop drooling!!

Mel - Awwww chucks (am all embarrassed now) as I told you on Tuesday - that's what friends are for!!

Chris was gutted that he didn't get to meet you (He reads your blog too) but is looking forward to getting together when your back in the big smoke!!

Keeping fingers crossed for you honey

So glad you had a great time!

A year ago I would have been one of those people who 'didn't get it'. Now, I'd be hard pressed to live without it. I can't wait to get to the lappie and find out what my blog friends have been up to. It's amazing how well we get to know each other through our words and it really does make the world a smaller (and nicer) place.
When I went to a blog meet-up a few weeks back, after the initial shock of seeing people in 3D and actually hearing their voices, they were all exactly as they are on the blog.
Long live the blog:-)
