Two Lovely Surprises

Every month the entire BWG Committee get together to discuss the events of the past month and to organise events for the upcoming months. Everyone has their proper job to report on but we all pitch in and help out doing all sorts of things. JJ and I are the unofficial weird artistic types and in that capacity are usually asked to put together posters, powerpoint presentations, do the writing on very large cheques (Physically large).....basically anything that involves being weird and arty. (JJ is the weird one......what do you mean you couldn't tell??).

Well, after the main Committee meeting, we were presented with these - Julie and Louise had the posters we put together for the last two big events framed and the logo that we designed for the BWG embroidered onto a towel. It was such a nice surprise - neither of us had any clue that this had been planned. I am ridiculously pleased with them - Thanks guys!!

And then I came onto the blog and discovered that I had been given a Beautiful Heart award by the lovely Debs from The Lehners in France. If you've not visited her blog then I think you should....she is a very funny lady and her posts regularly make me laugh out loud!!

I would like to pass this award onto everyone in my 'I read these' section......there is a good reason that I read those blogs and I think every single one of their writers has a beautiful heart!!

The name is Bond.......

Jane Bond (hehehehe)

Thursday was the combined women's lunch organised by The British Women's Group (I had a stall at the event so was running around trying to sort out prints, paintings and lots of piddly other things that shouldn't take long to do but seem to take forever - which is why I've not been blogging much!!). The theme of the lunch was James Bond - you may remember that JJ and I did the graphics for the event. Honestly, the amount of work that goes into the organisation of these events is phenomenal.....lunch for 320 people with shopping to start with, a charity presentation and entertainment throughout is not an easy thing to do!! The girls did us proud because it was fantastic!!! It helped that everyone that got into the James Bond spirit of things and had made a huge effort - we had girls in tuxedos, some dressed as Bond, a multitude of bond girls and even an M with lab coat and goggles!! I was told that, since I had come up with the lady for the poster, I should dress as her - hence the hair-drier!! (See.....suddenly all becomes clear!!)

It was held at the Oriental hotel by the river and the event started with a video of James Bond (it was someone's son that had been bribed with beer) coming off the skytrain, jumping on a speedboat, entering the hotel and then coming in the door of the ballroom - that was how our host entered the room. It was brilliantly done!!

Our chosen charity was Operation Smile and they showed a very touching video which highlighted the work that they do. I'm sure I mentioned them before - they are a global organisation that works with the worlds poorest families providing much needed operations to both children and adults that suffer from cleft lips and palates. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house!!! Leanne, who is the lady that I have been working with, approached me on the day and asked if I would join them on the executive committee for Thailand - I've said yes (honestly, how could I not!!)

The lunch itself was lovely....we had feta cheese salad to start with followed by chicken in a very light gravy with ribbon pasta on the side which was then followed by an apple tart with banana sorbet - the food was divine!! Oh, and there was lots of wine of course!!

During the actual lunch various clips were played of the best stunts from the Bond movies (The Golden Eye ones went down particularly well since it was actually filmed in Bangkok!!) and then between our main course and desert two men in suits appeared in the room, made their way through the tables and then they started undressing two women!! I couldn't believe it.....I honestly thought that the women had obviously had waaaay to much to drink (that says rather a lot about these events doesn't it!!) but then realised that it had been planned and they were showcasing Smoochie Smoochie underwear!! They came on stage and ended up throwing knickers into the crowd (you'll be pleased to know that they kept theirs on!!) - it was very funny.....I got a black thong with diamond bits on it!!! Then after lunch there was a fab singer and we all ended up dancing.

We were kicked out the hotel about 4 o'clock and then six taxi loads of us headed over to the Soi 8 pub where we were joined by our other half's when they finished work. It was a really good day - knackering but really good!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know the final total of money raised but I know that it's over 120,000 baht which is just brilliant!!!

It's too hot!!

We are now officially in the hot season (actually that should be HOT season) - It's a stonking 34 degrees today with 57% humidity and it's not about to get any cooler!!

It is too hot to write (If Chris were here he would probably tell me that it's too hot to read the nonsense that I write) and it's waaaay to hot to think. (We currently have a power cut so have no air con.........my computer has batteries and I'm hijacking my friends wireless network!!).

Anyway, the BWG are hosting this years CWL (Combined Women's Lunch) and it's got a James Bond theme.....I've just been told that, since I am on the committee, I need to dress up *Sigh*. It's too hot - I can't think any more......What the hell am I going to wear? (I need some inspired suggestions!!)

This is the poster that JJ and I put together for the lunch - I'm hoping that it might give you some ideas (cause I'm seriously struggling!!)

HELP!!!!

Friday, 7 March 2008

Phew..............

You know what it's like when you go away from work for a few days and you come back to sooooo much stuff that you kinda wish that you had never gone in the first place.......well that's how I have felt this week!! (and can I just point out that I don't work......allegedly!!)

The Andaman Trip was absolutely fantastic!! (I will be updating properly on that soon). I got back home late Friday night......I had sore legs, sunburn on my nose and my forehead, I was incredibly tired and in desperate need of a hot shower!! (I tell you......I don't think I would have made it into the society pages of any magazine had I been spotted on Friday night!!).

Anyway there have been no blog updates this week because I have.....

- Worked with JJ on the logo and look of this years Combined Women's Lunch (CWL) which is being hosted by the BWG. I was asked to do the artwork for it on Monday before I left for Andaman, said yes, and then discovered upon my return that they need it for today (we've got an extension till Monday but talk about short notice!!)
- Attended a 12 year olds Birthday Party - there was karaoke (am still shuddering at the horror)
- Met up with John, a friend of my Dad's who was in Bangkok on a business trip, and took him out for a few drinks and dinner (Fortunately he was lovely and we all got on very well!!)
- Wrote a Welfare Article for the BWG Magazine and am still chasing 9 other people for their contributions (It's only a couple of sentences I need - is that so hard?)
- Met with a representative of the Charity Operation Smile to find out more about what they do and how they do it (They are now going to be the beneficiaries of the CWL)
- Went to see Maroon Five (Who were bloody great by the way!!)
- Did more work on the CWL logo
- Went to Pakkred
- Hosted the BWG Welfare Team meeting and wrote the report for Committee.
- Had my Dad's friend, John, over for dinner before he flew back to the States
- Went to the BWG Committee meeting
- Went to the CWL meeting with JJ and we presented the art work so far (it needs tweaked but they were happy with the over all look)
- Wrote some blurb on Operation Smile which will go out with our sponsorship requests.

Thank god it's Friday - I am planning to do bugger all over the weekend....I am completely knackered!!! I've not even had a chance to catch up on everyone's blogs (now I've done a post saying that I will be updating on the Andaman Trip soon I now feel I can go and see what everyone else has been upto........)
